I haven't updated you on my dating life this week and I'm sure you're just dying to know what's going on so let me fill you in. The stand-up comedian I went on two dates with seemed interested, kept in contact and we had plans to go out this past Saturday. Well, he texted me that he was sick Saturday morning and would have to cancel our date. I just rolled my eyes and texted him back to feel better and I haven't heard from him since. Typical.
But...hold up...wait a minute! Friday I got out of work early at noon and was sitting in the train station when a man came up behind me, stroked the back of my hair and said, "Wow, your hair is so long now. I like it." I recognized the voice right away, smiled, turned around and said, "You aren't armed with a spatula are you?" It was EXTREME! If you don't remember, EXTREME! is the nickname I gave to the guy I rebounded with when my ex and I broke up. He owns a mountainbike/snowboard/skateboarding shop and is into extreme sports, tattoos and karaoke. We dated casually for a few months but broke up because I wasn't ready to be in a relationship and he threw a spatula at my head that one time. Anyway, it was totally random that we would meet in the train station like that. He was in the city for a meeting and was taking the same train home. He asked if he could buy me a coffee while we waited for the train and I accepted. We ended up talking for so long we missed our train. It was another hour before the next train would come so we ended up getting lunch, talking some more and talking even more on the train home. The next day, he texted asking if I wanted to see a movie. The comedian had texted out sick so I said sure. We saw "Contraband" (we both hated it) and got dinner at Yardhouse after. Dinner ended up being a blast because there was a bachelorette party there and they came up to EXTREME! and were fawning over his tattoos. They were wasted, but he was very kind to them. Later in the night we photobombed all their pictures. When he dropped me off we just hugged and he didn't ask to come in. He's texted me once since then asking if I want to hang out, but I'm not sure. I know he can be moody, but I also know I didn't treat him that great either. I have feelings for him though. It's weird. So yeah....that's my dating life right now.
Today's Thursday and that means that it's Three Things Thursday! If you're new to the blog, this is a post where I
list three things that are annoying me this week.
Basically, I whine about my white people problems. You
get your chance in the comments.
1. Sh*t ____ Says. The first few were funny, but now it's overdone and no longer funny. Just stop.
2. Paula Deen. I feel bad that she has diabetes (DIAH-BEE-TUS!), but unlike a lot of people, I don't think she owed it to her fans to go public with it. She's never, ever put herself up as a poster-woman for healthy living or marketed her recipes as such. In fact, she's done the opposite. Her health is her own business so whatever. I mean, if I were diagnosed with diabetes, I wouldn't bust into work the next day and yell, "Yo! I got diabetes bitches!!" What bugs me about it is that when she did decide to go public with her disease, she did it for money. If she wanted to help people or raise awareness for diabetes, she would've just done it. Also, no one knew she had the disease so how did she get her deal with Novo Nordisk? Was she actively seeking out an endorsement deal with a drug company? She had to have been! That's an ultimate low in my book. Paula Deen couldn't care less about raising awareness or helping people, she just wants a paycheck. America's sweetheart my ass. I'll let Anthony Bourdain handle this one.
3. Commuting. I'm out at client visits this week for work at a town an hour away from my apartment. Morning commutes are a warzone! People drive 90mph up your ass or 45mph like a turtle. There's no inbetween. Afternoon commutes are basically a traffic jam. Yesterday I sat in one spot for 45 minutes. I shut my car off and read my book. It was ridiculous! My old job was only 20 minutes from my apartment. I'm not used to this chaos! We're only at this client until the end of next week and I'm hoping our next client visit will be closer. At least I get paid for mileage and gas though.
To recap: Things are EXTREME!, stop saying sh*t, Paula Deen is a money-grabbing famewhore and I hate the highway!

Before I realized it was someone you knew who touched your hair, I was about to be totally creeped out!
I generally agree about the whole Paula Deen thing; if she did want to come out about diabetes, I would rather it be about living the disease healthily than peddling drugs for a giant pharma company and lots of money.
EXTREME is lucky it wasn't me, as if someone came up from behind in public and started stroking my hair, I would get Jackie Chan on their ass and ask questions later. This might be another reason I'm single. Anyway, fun reunion for you! No kung fu.
Yes, on the shit videos and Paula Deen. I love Anthony Bourdain and hate commutes. My 25 mins commute took an hour this AM because of snow and stupid drivers. Lovely.
I've never liked Paula Deen..Being from a very, very southern state she reminds me of every relative I dislike..She did it for the money and my guess is she was (or her agent was) out looking for deals on it. I didn't think I could dislike her more than I already did..I was wrong.
My favourite response to the Paula Deen issue is Marion Nestle's. She basically says Paula is a hypocrite for saying that she makes food that families can afford to make and now she's peddling diahbeetus meds (which are way more expensive than healthy meals) rather than promoting the first line of defense against type 2 diabetes: weight loss.
I actually think Paula Deen did have a responsibility to share her diagnosis because she teaches people to cook in an unhealthy way. She's an example and I think people who don't know about nutrition and follow her recipes might not have realized. DIAH-BEE-TUS -- Mac? If so, FTW!
Coming from behind and stroking your hair was inappropriate. Not a guy you need.
Having been to Paula Dean World in Savannah it is all about marketing Paula and making money.
Yay for Extreme! Maybe you both are in better places... I wish you luck with this one. :)
And oh Paula... I love her like a mother-in-law. I don't really think people should call her the anti-christ of healthy living (because hell- even Giada cooks only rich and fattening dishes), but I feel if she's going to start endorsing things, she should at least tone it down and preach moderation an little more than she claims she has.
@Oldman: How is it inappropriate? He's a friend and was joking. It wasn't like he's a complete stranger.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGG i feel like a dbag! i didn't even know you were back to blogging. WAHOOOO!! hahaha
anyways i was googling shit girls say last night and the first real ones are so hilarious but the other ones are just plain stupid except for the shit black girls say haha
OMG EXTREEMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Was it totally random meeting you in the train station? Was it?? And "Contraband" was not bad. It's like going to Wendy's and being angry they don't have Happy Meals. What did you expect?
@Melissa Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, you are not in a relationship with him so why did he feel it necessary to touch your hair? I wouldn't think of stroking a female friends hair. Like meghan said it would creep them out. But hey I'm old.
I always had a fondness for EXTREME! So funny you guys reconnected like that - could be fate! :) I totally agree about sh*t says videos - enough already! I'm still sorting out how I feel about Paula Deen these days... I mean, yes, it's her business - but some of her food is borderline dangerous/repulsive and it raises an interesting point about Food Network's role in providing relatively healthy content.
How fun bumping into a friend randomly and spending a nice afternoon - whether or not it's someone you used to date :)
I think the first two videos of Sh&t Girls Say are hilarious but you are right, enough with the spin-offs!
I love that you call him EXTREME! and can only assume it's a Harold and Kumar reference, because I also have a couple whom I'm friends with that I call "EXTREEEM!" bc they're always hiking and camping and shit.
I think things sound promising with this gentleman. So maybe he's a little moody, at least you know he's passionate?
SH*T XDJHFKS SAY is over, I agree. Just stop, everyone.
the whole paula deen thing makes me a bit sick to my stomach. I think she should have gone public with it when she knew, because here she was continuing to market and brand the food that made her get DIA-BEE_TUS (love that) in the first place. TWO FACED! but i completely agree with the moneyfamewhore sh*t, too. wrong all around.
also, I like the re-connection with EXTREME! glad you shared that.
Oooh, I loved reading this post. I really need to start dating. I haven't been out on a date in, like, a year.
1.) I can't believe the comedian didn't CALL to tell you that he was sick. Why the text? So passive.
2.) I actually thought it was sort of cool that EXTREME! touched your hair and complimented you on it. Yes, weird if he didn't know you, but since this person was a former acquaintance. I liked it.
I have a feeling that PD is going to lose a lot of fans over this whole debacle. I've never had a problem with her (other than only being able to take that laugh in limited doses), but the way she handled this wasn't in very good taste. Also, fun reunion! Very interested to hear what happens... ;)
Re: Paul Deen -- plus, she eats a lot of butter. Diabeehtus is about your "sugah," not your "buttah." Riiiight?
It's nice that he was nice to wasted people...honestly, I have no patience for obnoxiously drunk people.
Yeah that Paula Deen shit is a debacle. I've been ignoring it because it's idiotic in every way.
I love random reconnections. Whatever you think is best, is probably best!
I say just go with it for now. I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but I'm happy to give it anyway. You're the sister I don't have now. I know things were crazy for you with EXTREME to begin with, but really you don't have to put weight on a relationship with him. Just be and the rest will come too. Kind of neat seeing him like that and having a good time. Life is too short to just enjoy the little things.
I have nothing to say about Paula Dean. I think it's just sad...
Search and watch "Shit Everyone Says" on YouTube. Then never watch another spin off again.
I am a big believer in signs and things happening for a reason. :) It sounds like you had a really great date/reconnection.
AMEN! I totally agree with you about Paula! If she was touting her lifestyle as healthy it would be one thing, but she has NEVER done that. EVER. I don't think every celebrity owes us total honesty about their lives. They provide a service to us (entertainment, recipes, music, acting, whatever) -- that does NOT mean they have to open up their whole LIVES to the world at large.
hahaha i love that someone saud that extreme coming behind you and stroking your hair was innapropriate...umm you knew eachother and he is not a stranger in the least! goshhh people! on another note...paual deen...shocker...and the world is also round
I don't mind the "Shit _____s say" meme. Every other night, I check them out with my fiancé and see what's new. I think it's actually pretty interesting the many ways people identity themselves from what they eat to who they sleep with or their ethnicity. I admit, some are really bad, not funny and just poor production quality.
I feel sorry for illnesses....people always use them as excuses to get out of dates. Why don't people just own up to what is really going on? I'm assuming these men are late 20s/early 30s so why don't they call you and tell you if they aren't interested? F8cking men. What a strange turn of events seeing EXTREME! Tread lightly though...and yes the Sh*t___ says is old but jesus..the asian one hit home. I snorted and pissed my pants cause I was watching a video of my own dad!
I was thinking creepy with the hair touching too, but only because it was from behind and before he had officially said hello to you. Because there was no way for you to know that he wasn't a total creeper just touching on you in the train station. But it's about how you felt about it, not how we feel.
You are so freakin funny!!! An added bonus is that your thoughts run differently than mine, meaning I get a different perspective on a lot of things. Thanks!
I love your dating updates!!! Good luck with EXTREME! maybe just see where things go?
And Paula deen is annoying. She kind of drives me crazy.
